Compass Medical, PC closure

Updates for providers

Point32Health is aware of the abrupt closure of Compass Medical, PC, and we recognize that this situation may present added stress and frustration for many of our members and providers in and around the Massachusetts communities in which the physician group had office locations (Quincy, Braintree, Taunton, Middleborough, East Bridgewater, and Easton).

We’re here to support you as we learn more and work together to address the unfortunate complications resulting from this event. Ensuring continuity of care for those impacted is our central focus; we’re committed to making sure our members have access to the care they need, and that our providers are able to continue treating their patients. Minimizing your administrative burden during this time is also a top priority. We will assign care managers to those members with more complex medical needs to help them navigate through this challenging time, and will work to push referrals and authorizations for medically necessary services through the system as quickly as possible for Tufts Health Plan members affected by this situation. (For Harvard Pilgrim members, we are continuing to waive all prior authorization and utilization management requirements, except for those related to pharmacy benefit and medical benefit drugs.)

If any of your patients impacted by the Compass closure require immediate care, we encourage them to visit a local urgent care center or, if needed, emergency department. Members with questions should contact the applicable Member Services phone number listed on their Harvard Pilgrim Health Care or Tufts Health Plan member ID card.

For providers who were affiliated with Compass and wish to move to a new practice, you can do so through the usual process and do not need to be recredentialed if you were previously credentialed with Tufts Health Plan or Harvard Pilgrim. If you were not previously credentialed with us, you can do so by submitting your HCAS Provider Enrollment Form, W9, and Signature page (if applicable) to Tufts_Health_Plan_Credentialing_Department@point32health.org (for Tufts Health Plan) or PPC@point32health.org (for Harvard Pilgrim) with Compass Medical Provider in the subject line.

Alternatively, you may choose to directly contract with us. The Credentialing and Contracting Overview page on the Tufts Health Plan website offers information to assist these providers in joining the Tufts Health Plan provider network. To contract directly with Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, providers can submit a letter of intent, HCAS Provider Enrollment Form, and W9 to Harvard Pilgrim’s Provider Processing Center via email at PPC@point32health.org.

For affected patients who wish to continue receiving treatment from the same provider, the Compass website has been updated with information about providers who have joined new practices and how they can be reached — and also offers patients the opportunity to request a copy of their medical records. Compass patients with an emergent need for prescription refills should check first with their pharmacy, and may also call the main Compass phone line for assistance with emergent prescription refills or test results: 508-350-2000. The Compass website also includes information specific to members who have an immediate need for certain medications or services related to substance use disorder treatment. Patients should also be aware that, in accordance with official guidance from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Schedule VI medications may be provided to ensure patient continuity of care if a prescription has no remaining refills, and the pharmacist is unable to obtain prescriber authorization in a timely manner. Using professional judgement, a pharmacist may dispense a maximum of a 30-day supply, or the smallest available unit of use packaging.

Point32Health appreciates the exceptional work you do in caring for our members, and we intend to support you in any way we can. We will share additional details and work with you to answer questions you may have as this situation develops and as more information is gleaned.
