Double the impact on #GivingTuesday
#GivingTuesday was born from a need and a sense that people want to do good. It quickly became a powerful symbol of giving back. Inspired by this global generosity movement, Tufts Health Plan shifted from a traditional two-week workplace giving campaign to a 24-hour, two-for-one match campaign in December 2016.
The impact? In a word, astounding. We saw giving nearly double – from $63,000 in employee donations over two weeks in 2015 to $123,000 in a one-day campaign the following year.
And it’s gone up, up, up each year since.
On #GivingTuesday 2019, employee donations reached nearly $165,000, a 25 percent increase over 2018. Last year, we added a two-for-one match for board member giving, bringing total donations to more than $200,000. And with the Foundation’s match, our combined contribution to community during these 24 hours topped $600,000!
Employees have options for giving. They can give directly to an eligible organization of their choice or through our #GivingTuesday agencies – Community Works, Community Health Charities and the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley.
“Tufts Health Plan implements campaign best practices in the most innovative ways,” said Candice Dixon, who leads corporate partnership development at Community Health Charities. “The company’s signature one-day campaign with a double match is one of the best examples I know to maximize impact and engage more employees.”
Arleaya L. Martin, associate director of philanthropy for The Trust for Public Land, echoed this sentiment. “Providing a platform for local nonprofits to share their mission and give examples of how they are benefiting entire communities helps to build awareness and further exemplifies the importance of giving back,” she said.
What does all this say about #GivingTuesday at Tufts Health Plan? Three things: It works. It feels good to do good. And together, we can double our impact for years to come.
