Our commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community

On National Coming Out Day, we are proud to announce that we have joined the Business Coalition for the Equality Act, a group of leading U.S. employers that support federal legislation providing the same basic protections to LGBTQ+ people as other protected groups under federal law.

At Point32Health, we take pride in cultivating an environment where LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies feel valued and supported. Learn more about this work and our decision to join the coalition from Point32Health’s chief diversity officer, Javier Barrientos:

While National Coming Out Day is a powerful one-day event, we believe that our work to support the LGBTQ+ community both within and outside our organization must be a year-round priority. This includes taking consistent steps to bolster equity for everyone. One such step is our decision to join the Business Coalition for the Equality Act. This group of leading U.S. employers support federal legislation providing the same basic protections to LGBTQ+ people as other protected groups under federal law.

As the Human Rights Campaign notes, it is critical to address the lack of consistent legislation that would protect members of the LGBTQ+ community. “Despite significant steps forward, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) Americans continue to experience discrimination across the country. The patchwork nature of state non-discrimination laws and the lack of permanent, comprehensive federal non-discrimination laws leave millions of people subject to uncertainty and potential discrimination that impacts their safety, their families, and their day-to-day lives.”

At Point32Health, we pride ourselves in welcoming all communities. This means cultivating an environment where LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies feel valued and supported, too. We do this through multiple strategies from efforts in day-to-day tasks such as promoting inclusive language in the workplace to specific longer-term projects such as our first internal LGBTQ+ benefits guide to provide valuable support to our colleagues in understanding and navigating their health care coverage.

Our Pride Point Colleague Resource Group and Pride Circle are vibrant internal resources that make belonging tangible while fostering community. They work collaboratively with our diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) team to eliminate barriers for LGBTQ+ colleagues and enable a level playing field for growth and career development.

Our commitment goes beyond the workplace – we proudly raise the pride flag on National Coming Out Day and kick off June Pride Month each year by engaging with guests and other external community members with purpose and enthusiasm. We also collaborate with diverse suppliers, including LGBTQ+-certified and owned businesses, to further our economic inclusion vision. And for our LGBTQ+ health plan members, our Included Health platform offers trusted services designed to meet their needs.

On National Coming Out Day and throughout the entire year, we are guiding and empowering healthier lives for everyone at Point32Health.
